Josh Cook secured his best finish as an MG driver with second in race one of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Donington Park this afternoon.
It was another weekend of good pace and decent points, but the team could be left wondering how they didn’t secure a first victory of the season following a front-row lock-out for race one following Saturday’s qualifying.
Race one saw the best result of the day with Cook earning a place on the podium after starting and finishing second. Teammate Ashley Sutton might have been left thinking what could have been after another below-par getaway cost him dearly and had to settle for fifth.
The second race of the day saw more good pace for both drivers, but neither able to find a place on the podium. Cook finished seventh, while Sutton, with the quick-wearing soft tyres, crossed the line in 13th.
A favourable race three reverse grid put Cook into second on the grid. Both drivers showed good early pace but it was another race of tyre wear as Cook, running on the soft tyres dropped back late on to finish ninth. Sutton made real in-roads from 13th on the grid as the rookie battled his way through the pack and saw the chequered flag in fifth place.
