MG takes to a different track with British Athletics

The track itself might change but the drive towards podium places will remain as crucial as ever as MG announces a partnership with British Athletics.

The historic British marque has been confirmed as the Official Automotive Partner to British Athletics in the build up to the Rio Olympic Games in 2016, and the 2017 London IAAF and IPC World Championships.

The iconic British marque will provide a fleet of MG6 and MG3 vehicles to support the World Class Performance programme in all activities. Both MG and British Athletics have headquarters in Birmingham, with MG located at the historic Longbridge site. The city of Birmingham is a world class supporter of athletics events playing host to three televised events each year, as well as the 2018 World Indoor Championships.

British Athletics CEO; Niels de Vos welcomed the manufacturer to the number one Olympic and Paralympic sport, in a lucrative deal that follows on from a number of recent commercial announcements:

“We are thrilled and excited to be able to announce this partnership for the next four years. MG is an iconic British brand representing innovation, speed and performance - and therefore is the perfect fit for British Athletics in one of the most exciting times for the sport.”

The announcement follows recording breaking global sales for MG in 2013, with sales increasing significantly in the UK since the launch of the MG3 supermini in September last year. Modern MGs are designed, engineered and undergo final assembly at MG’s historic home in Longbridge, Birmingham.
