NEW MG DEALER IN BICESTER LAUNCHED BY TOURING CAR LEGEND JASON PLATO

County Garage in Bicester opened their doors to the public on Wednesday evening with the official launch of their MG showroom in Oxfordshire.

There could be no more appropriate name for the dealership in the county where MG became famous from its original Abingdon factory. It was also a double celebration for MG, with the addition of another dealership to its rapidly expanding national dealer network whilst also maintaining it’s position as the fastest growing automotive brand in the UK for the 9th month in a row in September (according to SMMT data) .

MG also leads the Manufacturer's Championship in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), so who better to help open the dealership than MG driver, touring car legend  and local hero, Jason Plato. The most successful driver in BTCC history delighted a seventy strong crowd in the showroom with stories of his past and current exploits and hosted a question and answer session before posing for photos and signing autographs for fans.

Oxford-resident Plato spoke in-depth about the hunt for Driver and Manufacturer’s titles with MG in the MG6 GT prepared by Triple 8 Race Engineering.  In their third season in the series, MG are eyeing a maiden Manufacturer’s title as the season concludes this weekend at Brands Hatch. The MG/Triple Eight team currently lead Honda by 28 points with just three races remaining.  All the action will be live on ITV4 from 10.15am on Sunday.

Talking about the team’s chances of landing the title, Plato was in confident mood. He said: “We’re in good shape – we’re ahead of Honda. I think at Brands Hatch, we’ll be faster than Honda and to win the Manufacturer’s we just need both cars to finish all three races, but obviously we’re not only going to do just that! We want to be at the front of the grid, winning races”.

Speaking on behalf of MG, Guy Jones, Sales and Marketing director said “It has been a great evening launching MG back into Oxfordshire, as part of our growing dealer network with the new supermini MG3 and the MG6, the road going version of Jason’s highly successful racing car.  The plan is to continue the celebrations this weekend with a win in the Manufacturers Championship of the BTCC and then it will have been a great week for MG”
