Pair of podiums for MG at Silverstone

A season of mixed fortunes continued for the MG Triple Eight team as two podiums were only backed-up by the bad fortune of punctures and incidents in the penultimate Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) weekend of the 2015 season at Silverstone.

While there was promise after Saturday’s qualifying, with fourth  position for Andrew Jordan and good pace from the MG6 of Jack Goff not reflected by him only producing the ninth quickest lap time, it was Sunday that saw the frustrations continue.

In race one, Jordan quickly fought his way from fourth to second, and despite being on the more durable soft tyres, he successfully kept championship leader Gordon Sheddon at bay to take his place on the second step of the podium. Goff had little chance to make in-roads before having to return to the pits with damage to his car. Once back out though, his good pace continued and secured the second fastest lap time, meaning a place on the front row of the grid for race two.

Similarly to his teammate in race one, Goff produced a solid rear-guard defence to cross the line in second-place after coming under some real pressure from Aron Smith late on. It was Jordan’s turn to be left frustrated in race two though, as a puncture on the last lap saw him drop from fourth to 19th.

All but ruining his race three, the 2013 champion made up seven places to earn 12th. Goff, who started from ninth following the reverse grid draw, was involved in a collision with Andy Priaulx mid-way through the race and had to return to the pits. He eventually returned to the race five laps down.

The 2015 BTCC season reaches its finale at Brands Hatch in two weeks time (10/11 October).
