Warning Lights

Brake system

The light illuminates when the parking brake is applied and
extinguishes when it is fully released.
If the parking brake is inadvertently left applied, the light will flash and an audible warning will sound.(Handbrake On will appear, MG6 petrol only)
If the warning light remains illuminated after the parking brake has been released, a fault with the braking system is indicated. Check the brake fluid level. (Brake Fail will appear, MG6 only)
If the light continues to illuminate, stop the car as soon as safety permits and seek qualified assistance urgently.

High engine coolant temperature

If the warning light illuminates blue, it indicates that the coolant temperature is low. If the warning light illuminates red, it indicates that the coolant temperature is high.
When the temperature continues to rise, the warning light will flash accompanied by an audible warning.
If the signal is missing, the warning light is flashed in blue.
If the engine is too hot, severe damage could result; stop the vehicle as soon as safety permits and seek qualified assistance at the earliest opportunity.

Low oil pressure

If the light remains on (accompanied by the message Low Oil Pressure, MG6 only), or illuminates continuously when driving, serious engine damage could occur; stop the vehicle as soon as safety permits and SWITCH OFF THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY. Check the oil level.
Seek an MG Authorised Repairer urgently.

Airbag

The warning light illuminates as a lamp check when the ignition is switched on.
If the light illuminates at any other time or fails to extinguish after start up, an airbag restraint system fault has been detected, then an audible warning will be given when the engine is started. (Airbag Fault will appear, MG6 only)
Seek an MG Authorised Repairer urgently.

EHPAS / ESCL / SAS

The warning light is used to indicate to the driver that a fault exists in electronic hydraulic power assisted steering(EHPAS) or electronic steering column lock system(ESCL) or steering angle sensor(SAS MG6 petrol only).
If EHPAS has a fault, the warning light will (display Power Steering Fault, MG6 petrol only) . Seek an MG Authorised Repairer urgently.
If ESCL has a fault, the warning light will illuminate (display Steering System Fault, MG6 petrol only). Seek an MG Authorised Repairer urgently.
If SAS(MG6 petrol only) has a fault, the message centre will display SAS Fault. If SAS is not calibrated, the message screen will display the prompt message SAS Uncalibrated. Seek an MG Authorised Repairer urgently.

Battery charging

The light illuminates red as a lamp check when the ignition is switched on and extinguishes as soon as the engine is running.
If the light remains on (by the message Alternator Fail MG6 only), or illuminates when driving, it indicates to the driver that the charging output from the alternator to the battery is low.
Seek an MG Authorised Repairer urgently.

Engine immobilizer / key battery low

The warning light does not illuminate when the ignition is switched on.
If the engine immobilizer verification fails, the engine cannot be started, and the warning light will be illuminated.
If the remote key voltage is too low, the warning light will flash accompanied by an audible warning.

Alarm status

The indicator provides information about the status of the
alarm system when ignition is off and the alarm is set.
MG3 – Red LED in heater controls.
MG6 15 Model year – Red LED.

Seat belt warning

If a seat belt for an occupied front seat remains unfastened, the warning light will illuminate. An audible warning is heard to remind the driver to ensure that both seat belts are securely fastened.
If the seat belt for an occupied seat remains unfastened once the vehicle speed has exceeded 15 MPH (25 km/h), the warning lamp will flash accompanied by an audible warning. The warning will continue until either the seat belt is fastened correctly or 90 seconds has expired.

Panel opening warning

The warning light indicates that the vehicle doors or tailgate are not closed. The warning light does not illuminate when the ignition is switched on.
If there is a door or tailgate not closed, the warning light will Illuminate.
If the door remains open once the vehicle speed has exceeded 3 MPH (5 km/h), the warning light will flash accompanied by an audible warning. The warning will continue until all doors are closed correctly or 30 seconds has expired.

EPB Status warning

When the EPB is engaged the red warning light illuminates.
If a fault occurs with the EPB switch the warning light will flash.

System fault warning

This warning light is used to indicate to the driver the status of any non-tell-tale warnings. This is a bi-coloured warning lamp illuminated in either red or yellow depending upon what warnings currently exist.
The lamp is illuminated red if a red warning exists.
The lamp is illuminated yellow if a yellow warning exists.
If both red and yellow warnings exist simultaneously, then the LED is flashed alternately red and then yellow at 2 second intervals.
When ignition is off, the warning light provides information about the status of the alarm system.

System fault warning

This warning light is used to indicate to the driver the status of any non-tell-tale warnings. This is a bi-coloured warning lamp illuminated in either red or yellow depending upon what warnings currently exist.
The lamp is illuminated red if a red warning exists.
The lamp is illuminated yellow if a yellow warning exists.
If both red and yellow warnings exist simultaneously, then the LED is flashed alternately red and then yellow at 2 second intervals.
When ignition is off, the warning light provides information about the status of the alarm system.

System fault warning

SYSTEM FAULT WARNING

This warning light is used to indicate to the driver the status of any non-tell-tale warnings. This is a bi-coloured warning lamp illuminated in either red or yellow depending upon what warnings currently exist.
The lamp is illuminated red if a red warning exists.
The lamp is illuminated yellow if a yellow warning exists.
If both red and yellow warnings exist simultaneously, then the LED is flashed alternately red and then yellow at 2 second intervals.
When ignition is off, the warning light provides information about the status of the alarm system.

Engine Emission Fault

This warning light is used to indicate an emission related fault is detected by the engine management system. The indicator illuminates as a system check when the ignition is switched on and should extinguish when the engine is started.
If an engine operation problem occurs while the vehicle is being driven, the indicator will illuminate (and the message Engine Fault will appear in the message centre, MG6 only).
Seek an MG Authorised Repairer urgently.

Engine check

This warning light is used to indicate an engine operation fault is detected by the engine management system. The indicator illuminates as a system check when the ignition is switched on and should extinguish after a few seconds.
If a non-emissions related fault occurs while the vehicle is being driven, the indicator will illuminate (and the message Check Engine will appear in the message centre MG6 only).
Seek an MG Authorised Repairer urgently.

EPB Fault warning

This yellow warning light indicates a fault with the EPB, or that the EPB is in a diagnostic state. Warning lamp illumination is accompanied by an audible alarm.

Glow plug warning

The glow plug warning is used to indicate to the driver that the diesel engine glow plugs are still heating and are below their cut-off temperature threshold, above which the engine may be cranked.

anti-lock brake system

The warning light illuminates as a lamp check when the ignition is switched on.
If the light is illuminates, a fault has occurred with the ABS system (ABS Fail appears, MG6 only) and you should seek qualified assistance at the earliest opportunity.
If an ABS fault occurs while driving, ABS operation will be suspended, but normal braking will still be available. Seek qualified assistance at the earliest opportunity.

tyre pressure monitoring

The light illuminates yellow when the ignition is in position Ⅱ. It extinguishes after a few seconds.
If the light remains on, or illuminates red when driving, a low tyre pressure is indicated. Low Tyre Pressure will appear in the message centre.
If the light illuminates yellow a fault with the system is indicated. Tyre Pressure System Fail will appear in the message centre. Adjust your tyre pressures or seek an MG Authorised Repairer.

Brake pad wear

This warning light is illuminated to alert the driver that the brake pads are worn and need to be serviced. The message Front Brake Pads Worn or Rear Brake Pads Worn will appear in the message centre.

Stability control system

The warning light indicates that the Stability Control System (SCS system) is working or faulty. The warning light illuminates as a lamp check when the ignition is switched on.
If the SCS system is working, the warning light is off.
If the SCS system has a fault, this warning light will stay on. Stop the car as soon as safety permits and contact an MG Authorised Repairer.
When the SCS system has an intervention event, the warning light will flash.

stability control system off

The warning light indicates that the Stability Control System (SCS system) is switched on or off. The warning light illuminates as a lamp check when the ignition is switched on.
If the function of the SCS system is off, the warning light will illuminate all the time.

passenger airbag off warning

The warning light illuminates as a lamp check when the ignition is switched on, If the passenger airbag has been disabled, the light will illuminate until the airbag is enabled, Once the passenger airbag has been enabled, the light will extinguish.

Slip control system / traction control

The icon is displayed for approximately 7 seconds when the ignition is switched on.
If there is a fault with the system, the warning light will remain illuminated when the car is being driven. The message centre will display Stability Control Fail or Traction Control Fail as appropriate.
Stop the car as soon as safety permits and contact an MG Authorised Repairer for inspection at your earliest convenience.
If the warning light flashes during driving, this indicates that the system is taking control to assist the driver.

Cruise control

The light illuminates green when the master switch is pressed but no cruise speed is active and yellow when cruise control is active.
For MG6. The message centre will display Cruise Set ### MPH (### represents the speed set) or Cruise Control: Standby as appropriate. If a fault is detected, the warning light will flash yellow and the message Cruise Control: Fault will be displayed.
For MG3. When cruise control is set, the target speed is shown in the LCD, The target speed remains displayed until the actual speed achieves this, at which point the LCD reverts to its previous display.

Traction control warning off

The warning light indicates that the traction control is switched on or off. The warning light illuminates as a lamp check when the ignition is switched on, If the TC function is manually switched off, the warning light will illuminate all the time.

passenger airbag on

The warning light is located on the remote display module and is used to indicate that the passenger airbag has been enabled.
If the passenger airbag has been enabled, the light will remain illuminated until the airbag is disabled, and the message Passenger Airbag On will appear in the message centre. Once the passenger airbag has been disabled, the light will extinguish and the message Passenger Airbag Off will appear in the message centre.

Rear fog light

Illuminates when the rear fog light are switched on

Low Engine Coolant Temperature

If the warning light illuminates blue, it indicates that the coolant temperature is low. If the warning light illuminates red, it indicates that the coolant temperature is high.
When the temperature continues to rise, the warning light will flash accompanied by an audible warning.
If the signal is missing, the warning light is flashed in blue.

Main Beam

Cruise control

The light illuminates green when the master switch is pressed but no cruise speed is active and yellow when cruise control is active.

Front Fog Lights

Illuminates when the front fog guard lights are switched on.

Side Lamps

Illuminates when the side or headlights are switched on.

 Direction Indicators

The left and right direction indicators are represented by directional arrows located at the top of the instrument display. The warning lights flash synchronised with the exterior left or right direction indicator lights
whenever they are operating.
If the hazard warning lights are operated, both warning lights will flash together.
If either warning light flashes very rapidly, this means that one of the front or rear direction indicator lights is not operating.
Note: Failure of a side repeater light will have no effect
on the warning light flash frequency.

Start/Stop Active Indication

This warning light is used to indicate to the driver that the engine is being controlled by Stop/Start system. It is used to emphasise the indication to the driver, when the Stop/Start system is active.
For 15 Model Year, light flashes 3 times if Stop/Start inhibited. Stop/Start currently unavailable appears in message centre.
